Block Association Candidate Questionnaire for 33rd Council District and Block Association Candidate Stoop Party Success

We sent out a 400-500 State Street Brooklyn Block Association Questionnaire to almost all of the remaining candidates for the NYC Council 33rd District seat. (We only missed one because no one could locate the candidate's email address.) Two of the eight candidates answered, Mr. Toba Potowsky and Mr. Ben Solotaire. Because Mr. Potowsky answered so promptly and there was still time before the election, we decided to set up a stoop meeting with the candidate on June 9. It was great – we had chocolate chip cookies, hot dogs, and beer! See pics below!

A reminder also that Zack H., head of our “Local Elections Committee”, previously took the time to reach out and schedule an introductory meeting between the Block Association and candidate Lincoln Restler. Zack and Brendan an I had a lovely one hour Zoom meeting a few weeks ago with Mr. Restler.

The Block Association did not endorse any candidate. But overall I think we achieved something this election cycle. We met some candidates and broadened our reach!

OUR BIG BELLY GARBAGE CAN WAS INSTALLED!

Thanks to the valiant efforts of Brendan G., the chair of our Clean Streets Committee, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (a business organization that runs three Business Improvement Districts in our area - including the Court-Livingstone-Schermerhorn BID), agreed to fund and install a Big Belly garbage can. This is an expensive, high tech solution to street garbage. The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership asks that we show our appreciation by attending the many fine cultural events they sponsor in our area

We had the Alloy-Block Bi-Monthly Meeting on June 22, 2021

We had the June 2021 Alloy-Block Bi-Monthly meeting on June 22, 2021. Construction will be starting shortly!

We talked about: better securing the external oil tank; the air monitoring plan; after hours variances; good communication between Alloy and the Block as construction begins; Hunter Roberts is the construction contractor; tree protection during construction; garbage plan for completed building; roof lighting on finished structure as per FAA regulations.
